Longhouse co-ordinates a number of forum gatherings every year that provide spaces for artists, arts development officers, commissioners and other professionals working in the public realm to engage in an exchange. In the true spirit of the Longhouse “It’s a space where skills are learned and practiced, where the troubling is discussed and beauty is created”.
The forum has a flexible agenda that is shaped by current trends relating to public realm practice informed by our contact with artists and practitioners. Previous forum meetings have explored questions around good practice, addressed issues about the processes for including artists in regeneration and redevelopment schemes, and allowed for an expression of perspectives regarding the role of the artist in these contexts.
Whilst the forum serves as a valuable platform for sharing views and ideas, Longhouse is also keen to ensure that it offers artists a space to focus on particular issues pertinent to their practice as well as opportunities to network and present work.
Longhouse strives to locate the forum in different venues around the West Midlands and is always open to new suggestions for hosts. If you think you have an appropriate space to host a future forum please contact us.
An ‘Access to Enterprise’ forum for deaf and disabled artists took place on 5 December 2007.
