Rob Colbourne

rob-colbourne-ar.jpg My approach as an artist is to work with ‘landscape’ and the narrative each specific one holds, authored by social, political and ecological factors that change its emotive and physical measurements up to, and at the point that I am in it. Ideally each site demands a process of intuitively working in an immersion in these complex layers. Through assuming any chosen investigative role, and combining this with desk based research and community engagement, I can undertake a reflective and documented process that subsequently introduces me to the content that the site contains.I endeavour to find those radiating details that uniquely identify the place, that determine how to creatively reinterpret and collapse it into the present, through the language that it demands.I enjoy an ethical and collaborative working process that arrives at art forms that are vehicles to provoke an open-ended change in the perception, intrigue and value of a place.Work that is poetic as much as utility, integrated and regenerative, involved and participatory; that acknowledges its place and time and the legacy it can extend.
